Marvel just released the first official teaser trailer for the upcoming “The Avengers” movie scheduled for release on May 4, 2012 and it looks awesome. If you don’t know who the Avengers are then you can read this Wikipedia article, but they’re basically a Marvel comic book superhero ensemble that fights crime and defends the Earth. Marvel has been releasing a number of movies in the past couple years leading up to the superhero ensemble movie coming out next May such as Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America.
The teaser trailer (embedded after the break) gives us some cool glimpses into the movie. The opening scene seems a lot like a Michael Bay movie (think overdone Transformers and explosions). It sets up the villain as one bent on world domination and shows glimpses into the formation of The Avengers. We get to see all the main characters and even a little bit of Tony Stark’s signature wit and charisma. It’s really a great pump up in anticipation and makes the movie look awesome.
The movie is written and directed by Joss Whedon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fame (amongst others). It has a great cast returning from the past few movies and a few new faces. We have Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Ironman, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanov / Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk (voiced by none other than the original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno) as The Avengers themselves. Samuel L. Jackson anchors the cast as Nick Fury, the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The movie is surely going to be a summer blockbuster and I think the writing, directing and cast is a winning combination. I’ll definitely be seeing it, probably in IMAX if they have it near me. Here’s to hoping for more awesome trailers in the future.
